Population Genetics and Phylogeography
DNA metabarcoding
Conservation Genetics
Invasive genomics
I am Senior Researcher at IMBBC-HCMR. I am an Evolutionary Biologist and my main research interests are population genetics and phylogeography, the development and standardization of DNA metabarcoding approaches to assess and monitor biodiversity of marine ecosystems, and genomics of invasive species. I have been involved in next generation sequencing (NGS), since 2009, operating the first NGS platform in Greece (454 GS FLX), and I have conducted experimental projects on DNA metabarcoding, bacterial diversity, population genomics, metagenomics, whole bacterial genome sequencing and transcriptomics.
The development and operation of Research Infrastructures (RIs), related to the European RI EMBRC-ERIC, is another activity of mine. I am currently acting as project manager for the Greek RI “Centre for the study and sustainable exploitation of Marine Biological Resources (CMBR)” and for the H2020 project ASSEMBLE PLUS, and as liaison officer for transnational access (TA) projects related to EMBRC-ERIC (EMBRIC and ASSEMBLE Plus).
