As a research technician at the Laboratory of Reproduction and Physiology of the Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture for more than twenty years, I have been involved in a number of national and European research projects on fish reproduction, mainly focusing on hermaphroditism, sex differentiation and reproductive cycles of cultured species. I have been engaged mostly in histological processing of fish gonads, estimation of fish sex steroid hormone levels with the use of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) and validation of GnRHa implants with in vitro and in vivo methods. Moreover, I have been appointed as the person responsible for the application of the EU Directive 2010/63 on animal experimentation in the aquaculture facilities of the Institute (Aqualabs).
