A new “Diagnostic Manual for the main pathogens in European seabass and gilthead seabream aquaculture” has been produced as a result of the activities of the H2020 project MedAID (Mediterranean Aquaculture Integrated Development). This Research and Innovation Project was approved in 2017, with the main objective of increasing the overall competitiveness and sustainability of the whole value chain of the Mediterranean marine aquaculture sector by improving its technical and business performance and by shifting to a sustainable market-oriented approach with a higher social and consumer perception. The Diagnostic Manual includes up-to-date guidelines for standardized methods enabling a harmonised approach to the health challenges due to viral and bacterial pathogens in the farming of seabass and seabream. Parasitic diseases are omitted in this document to avoid overlapping with the H2020 project ParaFishControl, dealing solely with diagnostic procedures for parasitic diseases. Dr. Pantelis Katharios amd Mrs Maria Smyrli from the IMBBC have contributed to the manual in Part IV. Bacterial diseases with a chapter on Aeromonas spp.
