What whole-genome SNP genotyping can unveil: exciting discovery of ancestral and recent introgression in wild and domestic goats now published in Molecular Ecology by Pogorevc et al. Analyses of wild and domestic goats, in terms of genome-wide SNP data shed light on their taxonomic status and enabled the detection of gene flow between domestic and wild goats. Geneflow was traced between the lineages of Caucasian tur and domestic goats that most likely occurred before or during early domestication. Within the clade of domestic goats, analyses inferred gene flow between African and Iberian goats. Phylogenetic analyses clearly separate bezoar-type and ibex-type clades.
