NAUTILOS participates in the World Environment Day event organized by the Municipality of Heraklion

 

The scientific personnel of the Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture (IMBBC) of HCMR participated in the event organized by the Municipality of Heraklion for the World Environment Day on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024

, where they presented educational actions within the framework of the European   project. The event took place in the Experimental Stage of the Cultural Conference Center of Heraklion. The Municipality of Heraklion held an award ceremony for the 88 Primary and High Schools that participated in the School Recycling Marathon by collecting recyclable materials. Also 20 Kindergarten and Primary Schools participated in an art competition with projects made from recyclable materials. NAUTILOS was present in this event and organized educational activities, games and craft making with the support of Follow Green.

 

Citizen Science activities are been performed within the framework of the EU H2020 project NAUTILOS, aiming to create awareness and engage students and the general public towards the elimination of plastic pollution and the protection of marine ecosystems. The project is strongly supporting the European Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy (ESPCE). NAUTILOS runs for 4 years and is composed by a large partnership with 21 partners from 11 European countries. The Hellenic Centre forMarine Research (HCMR) – Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture (IMBBC) participates in the project with Dr Eva Chatzinikolaou as the Principal Investigator.
