Between the 17th and 19th of September 2025, the annual conference of the European Marine Science Educators Association (EMSEA) took place in Ostend — an important meeting hub for educators, researchers, institutes, and organizations engaged in Ocean Literacy, marine education, and the dissemination of knowledge and awareness about the marine environment.
IMBBC was represented by Dr. Yolanda Koulouri and Ms. Xeni Symeonidou, who:
• Presented the results of the European projects BlueLightS and RESISLES,
• Participated in a workshop focused on redefining the principles, concepts, and dimensions of Ocean Literacy in Europe and beyond,
• Coordinated the EMSEA Mediterranean group, laying the groundwork for a common strategy on Ocean Literacy at the Mediterranean level.
The three days of the conference were constructive and inspiring — full of idea exchange, strengthened collaboration, and the promotion of modern, interactive approaches to communicating marine issues to the wider public.
