The website of SponBIODIV has just launched today! SponBIODIV is a newly launched Biodiversa+ project aspiring to fill important gaps in the study of the biodiversity, distribution, biology and ecology of marine sponges. Through production of novel knowledge and tools, it will allow the design of conservation and monitoring strategies, and support the implementation of policies for better management and protection of marine biodiversity, from national to European scales and beyond.
SponBIODIV is funded by Biodiversa+, the European Biodiversity Partnership, under the 2021-2022 BiodivProtect joint call for research proposals, co-funded by the European Commission (GA N°101052342) and with national funding from the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI).
The IMBBC is one of the three institutes of the HCMR, with headquarters in Heraklion, Crete and facilities in Anavyssos, Attica and Souda, Crete. With a staff of 111 people and 24 regular researchers, it undertakes research in marine biodiversity, genetics and genomics, and aquaculture.
