Dr. Thanos Dailianis is a principal researcher at IMBBC-HCMR focusing on the biology of marine invertebrates through an integrative approach comprising field ecology, taxonomy, genetic diversity, physiology and biotechnological applications. This is combined with a general interest in marine biodiversity and conservation.
Currently coordinator of MACCIMO project, attempting a multi-level assessment of climate change impact on sessile and low-motility marine invertebrates. Principal investigator for SponBIODIV Biodiversa+, addressing knowledge gaps in sponge diversity patterns in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. PI for SPINAQUA, investigating the potential of sponge cultivation in proximity to fish aquaculture for bioremediation and bioproduction.
Member of the management committee of three ongoing European COST actions: MAF-World, on the research and conservation of Marine Animal Forests; Ocean4Biotech, on the development of marine biotechnology research, and SEA-Unicorn, unifying approaches to marine connectivity for resource management.
An avid technical diver, with 1500+ logged dives for research in the Mediterranean and the Red Sea and coordinator of scientific expeditions. Expert in underwater photography, for scientific documentation and dissemination.
