Dr. Tsaparis is a Research Fellow (post doc) in IMBBC/HCMR and holds a PhD in Biology/Zoology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His main fields of interest are Conservation Genetics/Genomics, Molecular Ecology and Phylogeography.
He has significant experience in contacting field surveys for sample collection and in genetic/genomic data production and analysis. He is skilled in modern molecular biology techniques including nucleic acids extraction/optimization (from various sources) and NGS libraries preparation.
He has participated in more than 13 European and National research projects working on topics relevant to biodiversity (mainly genetic diversity) monitoring and conservation issues. He mostly studies the genetic structure and connectivity of natural populations of vertebrates, exploring the ways that evolutionary, ecological or anthropogenic factors have contributed in shaping current geographical patterns of genetic variation.
Dr. Tsaparis is mostly interested in working with species and populations valuable for conservation and management. During the last years he has focused on alien species and on application of genomics to marine stock identification.
