Research activities carry out basic and applied research aiming towards the provision of specialized services in the aquaculture industry field. The team has a long-standing experience in the transformation of modern genetic approaches to applicable technologies essential for the private sector through the development of molecular markers and genetic tools for parentage assignment, the production of genetic maps, and Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) analyses for breeding programs in the aquaculture industry.
In past and ongoing projects, we have coordinated efforts towards defining the genetic architecture of body growth, morphological traits, disease resistance, stress response and sex determination using QTL mapping and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in European seabass, the gilthead seabream and more recently in meagre and the greater amberjack.
