Despoina received her Diploma in Chemical Engineering in 2019 from National Technical University of Athens with specialization in Biotechnology and Food Engineering. She is currently a PhD candidate at the School of Environmental Engineering, department of the Technical University of Crete. She performs her PhD thesis at the Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture in Crete in the context of the multidisciplinary research project "SPINAQUA". Her main research interests focus on the remediation of aquaculture systems by using marine invertebrates and the production of bioactive compounds from them. Previously, she has been involved in projects related to the valorization of lignocellulosic biomass towards the production of high added-value products by marine microalgae and bacteria.
