Since 2001, I have been responsible for broodstock management and gamete quality in the Laboratory of Reproduction and Physiology of the Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture (IMBBC) of the Hellenic Center for Marine Research (HCMR). My work mostly focuses on: a) the study of fish reproductive biology and endocrinology, b) the monitoring of reproductive dysfunctions observed in male and female fish under captivity and c) the control of reproduction and induction of maturation in species of interest for aquaculture. Recently, our scope was to study large, benthic or pelagic species, such as the wreckfish (Polyprion americanus), the greater amberjack (Seriola dumerili), the bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) and the meagre (Argyrosomus regius). My responsibilities involve fish maintenance and handling, egg collection and egg quality evaluation, fish feeding, water quality measurements, samplings for blood and tissues, hormonal treatments, sperm quality evaluation and histological processing of samples. My duties also involve student training. In the future I plan to continue working on fish reproductive biology, problems faced under captivity and methods to improve broodstock management in both cultured and new species.
